The ITMA Review and other reasons to join ITMA

1.  Each month the Institute publishes the ITMA Review which includes articles on current legal cases, news of members and activities of the Institute. Click here to view an earlier edition to see how good it is!

Here are more reasons why you should think about joining ITMA:

2.  Join a worldwide network of professionals. As well as 550 UK members, ITMA has 300 overseas members, many of whom attend our conferences. Networking is important in a global marketplace and members are able to help their clients gain protection in other countries through their excellent contacts.

3.  Get discounted rates for ITMA conferences and seminars. Currently there are two major conferences each year, one of which is always held in London - one of the world's most important business, financial, and cultural centers. ITMA members save at least £100 on registration fees alone. There is also a programme of evening meetings to which members have free entry.

4.  Gain entry to the exclusive Members Area of the ITMA website. The recently updated website has a unique ‘members only’ area listing contacts throughout the world.  It also features a students’ section and an extensive library.

5.  Students have limited free access to an IP Case law database. ITMA has negotiated this deal with Darts-IP covering trade mark cases not only in the UK but also in the ECJ and CFI.

6.  Have free membership to the IP Benefits Plus scheme via the internet. ITMA has negotiated a scheme that offers members reduced rates on a range of goods and services covering, lifestyle, insurance, business and finance.

7.  Have exclusive access to a news feed covering IP matters. News from newspapers and magazines is fed live into the members’ area of the website ensuring members are abreast of breaking news on trade mark issues.

8.  Join an organisation that already has links with other international bodies. Each year Officers of ITMA meet with representatives of European trade mark bodies to discuss matters of mutual interest.  They frequently hold receptions alongside INTA’s Annual Meeting and in recent years, teams from ITMA have hosted seminars in the Far East.

9.  Join an organisation with good internal networking within the UK. ITMA has regular meetings with IPO officials and works closely with CIPA and the new regulatory body IPREG. Partnerships have been fostered with HMRC, the British Library and other IP organisations through membership of IPAN - the Intellectual Property Awareness Network.

10.  Help lobby national and international bodies to ensure trade mark legislation meets requirements. With members from private practice and industry, ITMA is well placed to voice opinions to the UK Government, the UK Registry (IPO), the European Registry (OHIM) and WIPO.
