- Watch notice
A commercial service to monitor the status or progress of an application or to monitor for any potentially conflicting trade marks filed by a third party.
- Well-known mark
A special category of trade mark which is afforded certain protection in the UK without the need for registration or use due to its high awareness amongst the public.
- WIPO
The World Intellectual Property Organisation based in Geneva which administers the Madrid Protocol and Madrid Agreement for the international registration of trade marks.
- Withdrawn
An application to register a trade mark may be withdrawn at any time prior to its grant. This usually occurs when the rights of third party are brought to the applicant's attention and the applicant decides that an application is not worth pursuing.
- Witness Statement
This is a document used to provide the evidence of a party in relation to proceedings before the UK-IPO and is similar to a statutory declaration except that it does not need to be authenticated by a notary public.
