ITMA supports IPO's warning re unsolicited
25 April, 2012
The Intellectual Property Office has published a notice, warning trade mark owners of unsolicited “invoices”, which offer services such as the renewal of trade mark registrations, quoting notably high fees. These notices can look official, but often the fees sought are significantly in excess of official fees and fees that may be charged by your professional Trade Mark Attorney. Please see the following link for further information http://www.ipo.gov.uk/warning.htm
ITMA supports the IPO in warning the public about such notices. If you receive an unexpected invoice or notification and you are unsure whether you should pay or not, please speak to your Trade Mark Attorney or legal representative. If you do not have professional representation and would like to speak to a Trade Mark Attorney about a notice you have received or any trade mark/design matter, please use the search tool on the left hand side of the page to find your local expert.
The following are the only offices that provide legal protection for trade marks, patents and designs in the UK:
• The Intellectual Property Office (IPO)
• The European Patent Office (EPO)
• The Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM)
• The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO)
ITMA is the professional body representing the Trade Mark Attorney profession in the UK.
