Welcome to ITMA

The Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA) is a professional membership organisation representing the interests of the trade mark and design profession.

In April 2016 ITMA was granted a Royal Charter at a meeting of the Privy Council and is set to become The Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys in the coming months.

Since 1934 we have been responsible for promoting, educating and supporting those in the profession. ITMA seeks high standards of training, qualification and continued learning to ensure our members are able to work with clients to secure and protect trade marks, register designs and carry out all the work associated with these practices.

In representing our 1500+ members ITMA acts as the voice for the profession. Our membership includes fully qualified trade mark attorneys, those in training, people in support roles, and barristers and solicitors with a trade mark/ design interest.

ITMA is the professional body responsible for the regulation of the trade mark attorney profession, a responsibility which is delegated to an independent regulatory body, which operates at arm's length under the Intellectual Property Regulation Board (IPReg).
